What Are Cookies?

They are distinct from localStorage — our calculator's grade data is stored in localStorage (not cookies) and is never transmitted to any server.

Cookies We Currently Use

Functional Cookies (Essential)

We use minimal functional cookies that are necessary for the site to work correctly. These cookies do not track you across other websites, do not identify you personally, and cannot be used for advertising purposes. Examples include:

• Session cookies: Temporary cookies that are created when you visit the site and deleted when you close your browser. They help the site function correctly during your current session — for example, maintaining your calculator state as you navigate between pages.
• Preference cookies: May store your calculator mode preference (such as weighted vs. unweighted, or letter grade vs. percentage input mode) so that your preferred configuration is remembered within a session.

These cookies are required for the site to function. Blocking them may prevent some features from working correctly.

Local Storage vs. Cookies — An Important Distinction

When you use the "Save" feature in our GPA calculator, your grade data is stored in your browser's localStorage — not in cookies. Local storage is a separate browser mechanism that:

• Stores data only on your device — it is never transmitted to our servers or any third party
• Persists between browser sessions until you clear it manually
• Cannot be read by other websites — only MiddleSchoolGPA.com can access the data it stored
• Does not expire automatically (unlike session cookies)

To clear localStorage saved by our calculator, go to your browser's developer tools (usually accessible by pressing F12), navigate to Application → Local Storage → middleschoolgpa.com, and delete the entries. You can also clear all localStorage by clearing your browser history and cached data.

Future Cookies — When AdSense Is Activated

We plan to monetize this site using Google AdSense advertising. When AdSense is activated, Google's advertising system will set additional cookies on your device. These advertising cookies are used to:

• Serve ads that are relevant to your interests based on your browsing history (personalized advertising)
• Measure ad performance and prevent the same ad from being shown too many times
• Detect and prevent invalid traffic and ad fraud

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out from multiple advertising networks at once using the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out. We will update this policy when AdSense is activated to list the specific Google cookie names and their purposes.

• We do not use persistent cross-site tracking cookies for our own marketing purposes

We will update this Cookie Policy whenever we make material changes to our cookie practices — including when Google AdSense or Google Analytics are activated on the site. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
