Privacy Policy

Summary
MiddleSchoolGPA.com does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information or grade data. Every GPA calculation happens entirely in your browser. We never see your grades. This policy explains in detail what data practices we do and do not engage in, so that students, parents, and educators can use this site with confidence.
What Information We Collect
We collect no personally identifiable information from visitors to this site. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifier (unless you voluntarily contact us via email)
- Your grades, GPA inputs, or any academic information — these are processed entirely in your browser and never transmitted to our servers
- Your school name, school district, or geographic location
- Student data of any kind, including data that would be protected under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
- IP addresses associated with individual users (we may receive aggregate traffic data through standard server logs, but these are not tied to individual identities)
- Device fingerprints, persistent identifiers, or cross-site tracking data
When you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the content of your message. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry and do not add you to any mailing list or share it with third parties.
How the Calculator Works — No Server-Side Processing
Our GPA calculator is built entirely with client-side JavaScript. When you enter grades into the calculator, the computation happens inside your web browser using code that runs on your device. The grade data you enter is never sent to our web servers, never stored in a database, and never transmitted over the internet. This is a deliberate design choice to protect student privacy, particularly for users under 13.
Local Storage
When you use the "Save" feature in our GPA calculator, your grade data is saved to your browser's localStorage — a storage mechanism built into your web browser that keeps data on your own device. Local storage data:
- Stays on your device only — it is never transmitted to our servers or any third party
- Is accessible only to the MiddleSchoolGPA.com domain running in your browser
- Persists between browser sessions until you clear it
- Can be deleted at any time through your browser's developer tools (Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data, or via your browser's built-in storage inspector)
If you share a device with others and want to remove saved GPA data, clearing your browser's localStorage for this site will completely remove it.
Cookies
We use minimal functional cookies necessary for the site to operate correctly. These are standard session cookies used by the Next.js framework that powers this site. We do not use behavioral tracking cookies, advertising tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies from our own systems. See our full Cookie Policy for details on every cookie used by this site.
Google Analytics
We plan to add Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate usage patterns — such as which calculator pages are most visited and where visitors come from geographically (at a country or region level). When activated, Google Analytics will collect anonymous usage data including page views, session duration, device type, and approximate geographic location. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual visitors. Google Analytics uses cookies to track sessions. You will be able to opt out via browser settings or a Google Analytics opt-out extension.
Until Google Analytics is activated on this site, no analytics data is collected by us.
Google AdSense
We plan to display advertisements via Google AdSense to support free access to our tools and content. When AdSense is activated, Google's advertising system may use cookies to serve ads that are relevant to your interests based on your browsing history. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, using the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool, or by setting your browser to block third-party cookies. Until AdSense is activated, no advertising cookies are present on this site.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Our site is specifically designed for use by middle school students, which includes children ages 11 through 14. We take children's privacy seriously and have designed our data practices accordingly. In particular:
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13
- Our calculator tools do not require any personal information to function
- All grade data entered into calculators is processed locally in the browser and never transmitted
- We do not create user accounts or user profiles for any visitor, including minors
- We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information (for example, through our contact form), please contact us at contact@middleschoolgpa.com and we will promptly delete that information.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is generally no personal data to access, correct, or delete on our end. However, you have the following rights:
- Access: You may contact us to ask what data, if any, we hold about you as a result of a direct communication (such as an email)
- Deletion: You may request deletion of any personal data you provided through direct contact with us
- Local data: You can delete locally saved calculator data at any time through your browser's storage settings — no contact with us is required
To exercise your rights or ask questions about your data, contact: contact@middleschoolgpa.com
Third-Party Links
Our site may contain links to external websites such as school district sites, government educational resources, and research publications. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information to them.
Data Security
Because we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no personal data at risk from a data breach on our end. Your calculator inputs remain on your device at all times. Our site uses HTTPS encryption for all connections, which protects data transmitted between your browser and our servers (such as page requests).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our data practices or to comply with new legal requirements. When we make material changes, we update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
